St Davids is a small city in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It’s the United Kingdom’s smallest city, with a population of just over 1,600. However, despite its small size, St Davids is home to a number of historic sites and beautiful walks, and many of these can be reached directly from your home away from home at Rhosson Ganol Caravan and Campsite. A dog on a Pembrokeshire beach
At Rhosson Ganol Caravan and Camping, we’re known for being super dog friendly. To help you and your pooch enjoy our beautiful coastline, we’ve put together a selection of our favourite walks that will bring you to a fab dog-friendly beach to enjoy glorious views, spacious sands and Welsh sea air.
Walk to St Davids
Your first walk from Rhosson Ganol might be into St Davids itself. The path from the site leads inland, past the ruins of the 12th-century Bishop’s Palace. From here, you can explore the streets of the city centre, before heading back to the coast. You can only take assistance dogs into the cathedral itself, but it’s worth strolling up to admire the unique purple slate structure from the outside. After seeing the cathedral, you can pick up supplies for back at camp, enjoy a refreshing drink and meal or just soak up the atmosphere of this unique city. This circular walk can be easily completed in a couple of hours, and it is the perfect way to explore all that St David’s has to offer.
Visit Caerfai Bay
As an alternative to heading straight back to camp, you might want to visit Caerfai Bay. This is a gorgeous cove just fifteen minutes’ walk south from St Davids. You’ll find plenty of space for your pup to run around and beautiful views to enjoy. You can return the way you came, with perhaps a stop off at St Non’s chapel to see where St David himself was born in a wild Welsh storm.
Walk to Porthselau
This is a short walk – just 2.1 miles -that takes in some of the famous Pembrokeshire coastal path. As you head inland from the campsite, you’ll enjoy stunning views of Pembrokeshire’s highest peaks. Walk for just over a mile before turning onto the coast path and head south towards the beautiful beach of Porthselau. This beach is often a little quieter than nearby Whitesands and enjoys the same beautiful views of the coast.
You can either head home the same way or make this into a circular walk by continuing along the coast path towards the lifeboat centre at St Justinian’s before heading inland.
